Temelín NPP was one of the chief reasons for the unsuccessful privatisation of ?EZ

One of the chief reasons for today’s unsuccessful termination of ?EZ privatisation was the nuclear part of this company. For some prospective buyers, this was the reason for a withdrawal from the whole process. ”Even the favourite bidder, a French company EdF, came forward with requirements proving that EdF itself doubts the technical condition of Temelín and Dukovany NPPs. Otherwise it would not have required form the Czech state a guarantee for the nuclear part of the ?EZ company. The Czech state was also supposed to guarantee that Temelín NPP would run even in the future. It is obvious that the huge campaign of ?EZ and the government pro-nuclear lobby about the safe nuclear power plant Temelín reaching European standards misfired in the case of EdF” Dana Kuchtová, the spokeswoman of the association, says.  Also other requirements of EdF, that the Czech Republic should never withdraw from the utilisation of nuclear energy and that the Austrians should end their obstruction, are absurd. However, they prove that the biggest operator of nuclear power plants in Europe fears trends that push for the termination of nuclear power utilisation (twelve of the fifteen EU members do not use nuclear energy or have announced a withdrawal, only France, Great Britain and Finland persist in the future utilisation of nuclear energy).  If the Minister of Industry and Trade, Miroslav Grégr, together with the Minister of Finance do not put through another megalomaniac proposal for ?EZ privatisation on the 28th of February, it can be expected that a new government will deal with the ?EZ privatisation. South Bohemian Mothers will again point out to the new government that the nuclear art of ?EZ is a burden and slows down effective privatisation. The issue of the detachment of the nuclear part of ?EZ from the whole package of privatisation and an independent solution to this issue are very much on the agenda. Dana Kuchtová, Daniela Magersteinová
